About Me

I am MJ, a photographer based in Tokyo, specializing in Japanese pre-wedding photography sessions.

Born and raised in sunny Singapore, I came over to Japan after college under the JET program, and taught in a public high school for 4 years.

After my contract with the JET program had ended, I moved to Tokyo to pursue a career in photography - a lifelong passion of mine which I had spent most of my free time on.

While I am not working on my portrait sessions, I am usually out and about searching for stray cats and documenting their antics. Or perhaps coaxing my cat to pose for me.

Catographer?

It comes without saying that I’m an avid cat lover, and cats have been a part of my life ever since I was a child.

As mentioned earlier, I enjoy spending my free time taking shots of my cat, as well as cats I meet when I am roaming around.

There is just something magical about cat pictures that brings a smile to our faces, and through my photos of our feline friends I hope to share this simple joy with everyone.

However, that’s only the tip of the iceberg of what cats have brought into my life.

Through my time spent with cats, both at home and out in the wild, I have learnt many life lessons from them.

One of which is the importance of cherishing every single encounter and moment in life.

Encounters with stray cats can happen when you are most unexpecting it, and every encounter with a stray cat could be the one and only encounter with it as our paths may not cross again.

While it does sound a bit lonely, it has shone light on how special it is to have our paths crossed, even if it occurs for only a single episode.

With this mindset, I cherish every friendship and paths crossed with my clients, and knowing how precious the time that they have entrusted to me is, I strive to create my best work every single time, while also making sure that the experience will be etched in their memories forever.

In honor and gratitude to my feline teachers, as well as wanting to bring about more smiles to the society, I decided to adopt the moniker Catographer.

Gear

You can view the list of equipment I am currently using or have previously used by accessing the page below.

As I am already doing note-taking of my equipment in Obsidian, I thought that it would be interesting to share them here too as it could act as a long term usage reference for those interested.

Currently creating the individual pages for them here is still a work in progress, so do bear with me for a while as some of the products still do not have their pages up yet.

My Scribbling Corner

I have created a little corner here in my page for me to scribble stuff, from random thoughts or encounters in my daily life to photography or tech related opinions.

Or also more commonly known as a blog.

As I do not get much opportunities to use English in my daily life here, this is a way to keep my linguistics skills from going rusty as well.

It’s nothing fanciful, but you are definitely welcome to browse through it if you are intrigued, or perhaps want to learn a little bit more about me (or what goes on in my head?).
